Wildlife Crime
NARGC's position on wildlife crime
The NARGC has always promoted and advanced the goal of the elimination of wildlife crime, both here in Ireland and internationally through FACE Europe. In Ireland we have worked with the statutory agencies, the Gardai and NPWS, to ensure wildlife crime is investigated and prosecuted.
Some aspects of wildlife crime in the media, is often referred to as 'illegal hunting'. The NARGC find this offensive and refutes it at every opportunity. It is poaching and criminality, and should not be confused or labeled with legitimate hunting and shooting.
The NARGC promotes and advocates for hunting and shooting and all our activities to be done in strict compliance with the law, best practice and the strongest ethical standards. Our courses and training seminars promote these high standards at every opportunity, and we ensure compliance from our members.
PAW Ireland is part of a larger European / International network where all the stakeholder in each country / region involved in wildlife management jointly cooperate to stamp out wildlife crime.
The NARGC was instrumental in originally setting up PAW Ireland with other Stakeholders in the early 2010's.
We are delighted to continue that collaboration with other partners in this area, all working together to stamp out wildlife crime.
The Current Executive of the NARGC have appointed Richie Delaney to be our delegate to PAW Ireland and work with the other stakeholders collectively to ensure wildlife crime is pursued and investigated thoroughly.
